The US police is yet to learn that Black lives matter as seen in the recent killing of a Black man during a traffic stop. But, justice has been served in the case against the former Minneapolis officer whose actions in the death of George Floyd sparked massive protests.
Derek Chauvin, who killed Floyd last year by kneeling on his neck last year, has been convicted of all counts against him. Chauvin is facing just 40 years in prison, although it should have death or a life sentence without parole for all the pain the US suffered because of the crime he committed. According to Islamic principles, it is death for a person who kills another because not only black but all lives matter. Islam also says that the crime of a person who takes one life is as if he has killed all humans. But, sadly Chauvin is facing neither life nor the death sentence, which is given in rare cases.
However, the US police has still not understood that black lives matter as white police officer recently allegedly shot a young Black motorist to death during a traffic stop in a Minneapolis suburb.
The fatal shooting of Daunte Wright triggered three nights of protests and civil unrest.
Minnesota authorities have charged with second-degree manslaughter Kim Potter, the Brooklyn Center police officer who was arrested on April 14 for killing 20-year-old Wright during an April 11 traffic stop.
The incident occurred amid the trial of Chauvin.
The maximum sentence he could get is 40 years for second-degree unintentional murder, 25 years for third-degree murder and 10 years for second-degree manslaughter. Those sentences would likely be served concurrently, not consecutively, since they are all for the same crime.
The judge in the trial canceled his bail and said Chauvin would be sentenced in eight weeks.
